Biographical Sketch of Melissa Gwyn

An artist living in San Francisco and teaching at the University of California Santa Cruz after moving to the West Coast from Brooklyn in 2000, Melissa Gwyn received her MFA from Yale in 1989. While in New York, her works were exhibited at Feigen Contemporary, Stux Gallery and White Columns, as well as the Kohler Art Center in Wisconsin. During that time her work was reviewed in such significant periodicals as Art Forum, Time Out New York, Village Voice, Art News, and The New York Times.

Since moving to the West Coast and teaching full-time, Gwyn has exhibited in San Francisco, London, Japan, Saratoga, New York (The Tang Museum) and elsewhere. Her work has been reviewed in Chromogram Magazine, Chemistry World, Times Union Albany, Temporary Art Review, The Temple News Online in Philadelphia and other journals. She has presented to audiences at USC, UC Davis, Carnegie Mellon, The Tang Museum at Skidmore College, San Francisco Art Institute, The Palmer Museum at Penn State, Ohio State and Vassar College, among other institutions.
