We would like to thank Dr. Blake Hobby and Dr. Brian Butler for inviting us to gather articles and work closely to shape this issue of The Black Mountain College Studies Journal. A special thanks goes to all those who contributed to the issue. The scholarly, historical, and creative elements here grew out of ReVIEWING Black Mountain College 3, a conference held in partnership with the Black Mountain College Museum and Arts Center October 7 – 9, 2011 at The University of North Carolina Asheville in Asheville, NC. Scholars, performers and artists came to Western North Carolina to present ideas and perform works related to avant-garde composer John Cage. The program for the weekend included music, performances, installations, exhibitions, films and scholarly presentations, all exploring John Cage’s life, work, genius, and Circle of Influence.
